Ingredients

  • 8 pretzel stick (s), TK
  • 1 kg meat loaf in one piece (to bake yourself or already baked)
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 2 onions)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoon mustard, sweeter
  • salt and pepper
  • possibly sugar
  • possibly lemon juice
  • pickle
  • tomato
  • egg (s)

Instructions

  1. First let the frozen pretzel sticks thaw completely (the evening before or in the morning if the burgers are being prepared in the evening).
  2. If you use meat loaf, bake the meat loaf fresh in the oven (approx. 160 ° C, approx. 1.5 hours) and let it cool down, cut into thin slices (I always use two small bowls of meat loaf, each 500 g, then that`s the Dia just right for the burger buns).
  3. Cut the defrosted pretzel sticks into 3 parts each with a knife and carefully shape each part into a small ball. Make sure that the previous outside of the pretzel sticks remains on the outside (so that the burger buns turn out really nice and brown).
  4. Place the formed mini burger buns on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, sprinkle with salt and bake in the preheated oven at top / bottom heat for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. In the meantime, finely dice the onions and sauté in 1 teaspoon butter until translucent. Add 1 - 2 teaspoons of sugar and let it caramelize. Remove from the heat and let cool down a bit and then stir in the sweet mustard. Season to taste with salt, pepper and, if necessary, more sugar and lemon juice.
  6. Cut the pretzel burger buns crosswise, cover with a thin slice of meat loaf and add a small teaspoon of the sweet onion mustard sauce.
  7. If you like, you can also put finely chopped pickles, tomato slices or, typically Bavarian, a fried egg on top. (For this: fry the fried eggs in the hot pan for a short time until the egg white is already white. Then carefully prick the egg yolks with a fork and spread over the entire egg white and fry them until they`re done) Then put the top of the pretzel buns on top and ready to eat put in a cool place.
  8. We love the pretzel burgers when they are well chilled - but often we can`t wait until everything is cold.
  9. Note: If there are only the pretzel burgers, the quantities are sufficient for approx. 6 people. As part of a finger food buffet with more choice, of course, correspondingly more.
