Bulgarian-Style Potato with Feta Cheese

A tasty, satisfying, easy-to-prepare dish – potato casserole with feta cheese.

Ingredients

  • Large potatoes – 3 pcs.
  • Bryndza – 200 g
  • Onions – 40 g
  • Chicken egg – 2 pcs.
  • Dried mint – 1 pinch
  • Butter – 20 g
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Salt (optional) – to taste
  • Vegetable oil – for lubricating the mold

Directions

  1. For potato casserole with feta cheese, prepare the food listed. Peel potatoes and onions, wash under running water.
  2. Grate potatoes and onions on a coarse grater. Squeeze out any excess water well. The easiest way to do this is with a piece of cheesecloth: put all the potato-onion mass in it and, twisting the cheesecloth clockwise, squeeze out all excess liquid.
  3. Add chicken eggs, grated feta cheese, and dried mint to the grated potatoes. Pepper to taste, but whether to add salt depends on the taste of feta cheese – mine was quite salty. Stir the mixture until smooth.
  4. Lightly grease the baking dish with vegetable oil, put the potatoes with feta cheese into it, level the surface with a tablespoon. If you want the potatoes to bake quickly and for sure, lay them out in a thin layer – 3-4 centimeters, no more.
  5. Cut the butter into thin slices, spread them over the entire surface of the potato mass. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees, bake the potatoes with feta cheese for 50-60 minutes. Depending on the type of potato, the casserole may take a little more or less time to cook.
  6. Cut the prepared Bulgarian potato with feta cheese into portions and serve hot. It will be delicious to serve it with sour cream.
