Ingredients

  • 800 g currants, red
  • 450 ml water
  • 450 g suar
  • 700 ml vodka
  • 100 ml lemon juice, preferably freshly squeezed

Instructions

  1. Bring the water and sugar to the boil until the sugar has dissolved. Let the sugar water cool down again. Stalk the currants, wash and mix (I use the Thermomix). Strain the mixed currants through a sieve so that the seeds remain. I push it through the Tupperware hand strainer with the wooden tamper, it works fine. If a core fails, that`s not so tragic. When sifting, pour some vodka into the sieve, so it can be pushed through faster. Pour the vodka, lemon juice and sugar water into the crushed currants and stir everything well. Finished!
  2. Makes about 2.4 liters.
  3. Currant lime is great to freeze in plastic bottles. Also very tasty over vanilla ice cream.
  4. Very tasty poured over with sparkling wine or simply enjoyed pure and cold.
  5. Was an invention out of necessity, because sometimes you don`t know what to do with all the currants. Good alternative to the delicious strawberry lime.
