Fried Fish in Tomato Sauce with Bell Pepper and Garlic

Roasted sea bass is delicious on its own. But the taste of fish will be revealed in a new way if you combine it with a rich and aromatic sauce of tomatoes, bell pepper, soy sauce, and garlic. According to this recipe, you can cook any fish, the main thing is that there are no bones in it.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Fillet of sea bass (any fish) – 400 g
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  • Flour – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Dried basil – 0.5 teaspoon
  • Dried marjoram – 0.5 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) – 2 tbsp

    For the sauce:

  • Tomatoes – 300 g (3 pcs.)
  • Bulgarian red pepper (frozen or fresh) – 100 g
  • Soy sauce – 2 tbsp
  • Starch – 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Sugar – 1 pinch (as needed)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) – 1 tbsp

Directions

  1. Wash the fish fillets, dry, and cut into small pieces. Put the fish in a deep bowl, add salt and lemon juice. Stir and let sit for a couple of minutes.
  2. Combine flour with basil and marjoram (use any dried herbs that you like). Stir.
  3. Dip the fish on all sides in the resulting mixture, shake off the excess flour.
  4. Fry the fish in a preheated pan with a little oil until lightly golden brown on both sides. Transfer the fish from the skillet to a plate.
  5. Prepare the sauce. Cut the tomatoes into small cubes. Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan, put tomatoes, and fry them until soft for a few minutes. If the tomatoes are sour, you can add a pinch of sugar.
  6. Pour in the soy sauce and stir.
  7. Add bell peppers, peeled from seeds and cut into small cubes (I have frozen), mix. Continue simmering the sauce for a couple more minutes (or until the pepper is tender).
  8. Add minced garlic to the skillet. Stir.
  9. Dissolve the starch in 100 ml of water, mix thoroughly.
  10. While stirring vegetables, pour the resulting starch mixture into the pan. While stirring, cook the sauce until thick.
  11. Put pieces of fried fish in the thickened sauce, heat the fish in the sauce for 1 minute and remove from heat. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the fish sit for 5 minutes.
  12. Fried fish in tomato sauce with sweet pepper and garlic is ready. This dish goes well with any side dish: mashed potatoes, pasta, rice, or vegetable salad.
