Herring and Onion Fillet Appetizer with Sour Cream Cheese Sauce

A wonderful appetizer for any table, especially a festive one – an appetizing herring under thin onion rings and a juicy spicy sauce made of cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, dill, garlic and mustard. This is delicious!

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • Lightly salted herring – 500 g
  • Bulb onions – 1 pc. (70-100 g)
  • Lemon – 1 pc.
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp (30 ml)

For the cheese sauce:

  • Hard cheese – 100 g
  • Sour cream – 100 g
  • Mayonnaise – 100 g
  • Mustard beans – 30 g
  • Garlic – 1 clove
  • Fresh dill – 30 g
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

Directions

  1. We prepare the necessary products.
  2. We cut the herring into fillets. To do this, cut off the head and tail fin of the herring. Then we make an incision along the abdomen and take out the insides. After that, rinse the herring well.
  3. Divide the herring into two halves and take out the spine.
  4. Then we take out the remaining large rib bones.
  5. Cut the herring in two and remove the skin.
  6. Cut the herring fillet across into small pieces.
  7. Put the pieces of herring on a plate.
  8. Peel the onions and cut into thin rings.
  9. Put the onion rings on the herring.
  10. Cut the lemon into two parts. Squeeze 1-2 tablespoon from half a lemon. spoons of juice.
  11. Pour lemon juice over the herring and onions.
  12. Then pour with vegetable oil.
  13. Cooking the sauce. To do this, rub the cheese on a medium grater. Finely chop the dill. We leave a little dill to decorate the snack.
  14. Peel the garlic and pass through a press or rub on a medium grater.
  15. Combine cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, dill, garlic, grain mustard and black pepper in a bowl. Add salt if necessary. I did not add salt.
  16. Stir until smooth.
  17. Put the sauce on top of the herring and onions and distribute it evenly.
  18. Sprinkle with the remaining dill on top.
  19. If you wish, you can decorate the herring and onion appetizer with lemon wedges.
  20. An appetizer of herring and onion fillets with sour cream-cheese sauce can be served to the table.
