Kulesh with Bacon

Cossack kulesh with bacon and potatoes is a very hearty and tasty first dish, which in the old days was prepared by the Cossacks. Soup with millet, potatoes, and bacon is often called “field”, as it was cooked in the field.

Ingredients

  • Millet – 0.5 cups
  • Potatoes – 7-8 pcs.
  • Bulb onions – 2 pcs.
  • Lard – 100 g
  • Parsley greens – 0.5 bunch
  • Salt – 1 tbsp
  • Water – 1.5 l

Directions

  1. Millet, bacon, potatoes, onions, a little greens, and salt are the ingredients that you will need to make kulesha with bacon.
  2. The recommended amount of water is poured into the pan and salted. Put on high heat and bring to a boil.
  3. Millet is washed well with warm water, poured over with boiling salted water, and cooked until half cooked for 15 minutes over medium heat.
  4. Meanwhile, the potatoes are being prepared. It needs to be peeled, washed, and cut into cubes.
  5. Peel the onions, rinse with cold water, and cut into cubes.
  6. Cut the bacon into cubes 1×1 cm. Heat the frying pan, fry the bacon over high heat for 3 minutes.
  7. Reduce heat to medium. Then add onions and fry for another 5 minutes until golden brown.
  8. 15 minutes after the start of cooking, peeled, diced potatoes are added to the millet and boiled for another 10 minutes.
  9. After that, add finely chopped bacon, fried with onions, and let it boil for 5 minutes.
  10. The parsley is washed and chopped finely.
  11. Kulesh with bacon is ready!
  12. When serving, sprinkle with finely chopped parsley on a plate.
  13. Ready kulesh with bacon.
