Mussels and Shrimps in Buzara Sauce

Having been on vacation in Croatia, I returned with nostalgia for Croatian cuisine … I scoured the internet for a long time in search of a recipe for this dish. But all is not right and wrong … In the end, I created this masterpiece, following the advice of different chefs. And it turned out great! Try it!

Ingredients

  • Mussels – 1.5 kg
  • Shrimps – 500 g
  • Bulb onions – 1 pc.
  • Garlic – 5 teeth.
  • Anchovy, fillet – 2-3 pcs. (optional)
  • Hot pepper (optional) – to taste
  • Canned (or fresh) tomatoes in their own juice – 400 g
  • Parsley greens – 1 bunch
  • Breadcrumbs – 1 handful
  • Dry white or rose wine – 3/4 cup
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Finely chop the onion and garlic and fry in olive oil until golden brown.

    Add the anchovy fillet and dissolve, stirring constantly. Hot pepper can be added if desired.
  2. Add chopped tomatoes in your own juice, add a little salt. Simmer for 10 minutes over low heat. (You can use fresh juicy tomatoes, blanch them, remove the skin, remove the seeds and cut into pieces.)
  3. Add fresh or defrosted shrimp. Simmer in the sauce for 5-7 minutes, turning over from time to time.
  4. Add the mussels peeled from the barbs. Ideally, of course, fresh, as a last resort, use frozen, but with shells. Add chopped parsley and breadcrumbs. Pour in wine.
  5. Stir everything and cook covered for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
