Ingredients

  • 1 ½ kg onion (s), small brown ones
  • 6 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 piece (s) bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 500 g tomato (s), diced (packae)
  • 0.25 liter ¼ white wine, dry
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over the onions, leave to stand for 5 minutes, drain and peel off the peel.
  2. Preheat oven to 175 degrees.
  3. Heat the oil in a baking dish, add the onions and turn them in the oil.
  4. Add the bay leaves, thyme, tomatoes and wine. The onions should be barely covered.
  5. Sprinkle with salt and pepper (freshly ground).
  6. Braise in the oven for 1 1/2 hours. Move the onions from time to time.

  8. The onions can be braised 1 or 2 days in advance, because they taste even better if they are well drawn.
