Tartlets without Molds

by Editorial Staff

Tartlets are made from whole grain dough and bell pepper. Filled with any filling. I suggest the simplest option – chopped bell peppers, cheese, and herbs. Vegetable or meat salads are perfect as a filling.

Cook: 40 mins

Servings: 3

Ingredients

  • For tartlets:
  • Bulgarian pepper – 3 pcs.
  • Whole grain flour – about 200 g
  • Water – 30 ml
  • Vegetable oil – 30 ml
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Baking powder – 0.5 teaspoon.
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 pinch
    *
  • For the filling (optional):
  • Pickled or semi-hard cheese – 80-100 g
  • Fresh herbs (basil) – 1-2 sprigs
  • Bulgarian pepper – a few pieces

Directions

  1. Prepare your ingredients. The amount of flour can vary due to differences in flour properties from different manufacturers. In addition to or instead of whole grain flour, of course, you can take regular bakery flour, i.e. premium wheat or wheat with bran.
  2. Combine flour with salt, sugar and baking powder to make the dough.
  3. Then add water, vegetable oil and egg.
  4. Stir the ingredients by hand or using kitchen appliances.
  5. The dough should be elastic.
  6. For the base of the tartlets, cut the washed and seeded bell peppers into rings of the desired height. The thickness depends on how much filling you plan to serve in the tartlets.
  7. The minimum height of the pepper ring is 1 cm. Use the remaining pepper for the filling or for other dishes.
  8. I suggest a simple filling option for these tartlets.
Use brine or semi-hard cheese, fresh herbs like basil, and chunks of bell pepper left over from the tartlets.
  9. For the filling, cut the pepper into cubes, grate the cheese, and chop the fresh herbs.
  10. Stir the ingredients together without seasoning.
  11. To prepare tartlets, roll out all the dough or dough pieces 3-4 mm thick and cut into elongated triangles.
  12. Then wrap each triangle around the pepper ring so that the dough forms the bottom of the tartlet, as shown in the figure.
  13. Place the tartlets on a greased baking sheet or lined with baking paper. The filling can be either baked along with the tartlets, or added to ready-made ones.
  14. Bake the tartlets in the oven at 180-200 degrees for about 15 minutes.
  15. Original tartlets, prepared without using molds, are ready. They are suitable for serving warm or cold.
