Vareniki with Black Currant

Aromatic, sweet-sour and very tasty dumplings with black currant berries.

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • Wheat flour, premium grade – 400 g (3 glasses of 200 ml) + for sprinkling the board
  • Water – 200 ml
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon

For filling:

  • Black currant – 500 g
  • Sugar – 80 g

For cooking dumplings:

  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. First you need to prepare the dough, I do it in a bread maker: I put all the necessary ingredients, pressed the button – and in a few minutes everything is ready.
    To prepare the dough by hand, sift the flour into a deep bowl, make a depression, pour in the egg with water and salt. Stir with a spoon. Then knead well with your hands for five minutes. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Put the berries in a sieve, rinse and drain.
  3. Remove the dough from the bag and knead slightly. On a table sprinkled with flour, roll out part of the dough with a rolling pin, cut out circles with a glass. On each circle, put a few currant berries, sprinkle with sugar, mold the dumplings and put them on a board dusted with flour.
  4. Cook the dumplings in slightly salted boiling water until tender (until they come up). Catch with a slotted spoon and put on a dish.
  5. Serve with sour cream, yogurt or honey.
