Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients about 1 hour before baking.
  2. Sieve the flour and baking powder together. Finely chop the orange peel and lemon peel.
  3. Beat the butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and eggs with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and frothy, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Add the milk, cocoa powder, and gingerbread spice and stir well until combined.
  5. Add the sieved flour mixture and mix with a wooden spoon until just combined. Fold in the chopped orange peel and lemon peel to create a thick, viscous dough.
  6. Spread the dough evenly onto a greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25 minutes.
  8. Let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then cut into rectangles, diamonds, or squares.
