Beat the butter until frothy. Gradually pour in the sugar and stir until it has dissolved. Briefly stir in the eggs one at a time. Do not stir the dough longer than necessary, just until the ingredients are well mixed. Mix the sifted flour with the baking powder and stir into the dough.
Depending on your requirements, you can now add ingredients or flavors to the dough. Lemon or vanilla aromas, chocolate sprinkles, cherries, raisins, cocoa (for marble cakes), nuts, eggnog or 0.1 l red wine are all delicious. There are no limits to your imagination.
For a loaf pan I use five times the quantities given in the list of ingredients. The cake then needs about 40 minutes at 175 degrees, or up to 60 minutes depending on the liquid in the dough. Chopstick control is the safest way!
