Instructions

  1. Reduce the cola and ketchup together in a saucepan to 1/3. In the meantime, puree the onions with garlic and pickles. Add the mustard, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaves, juniper berries and the pureed ingredients to the cola and ketchup mixture and continue to reduce over low heat.
  2. Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 hours and reduce further, stirring occasionally. Then season with the mentioned spices. Do not add the smoked salt until the end so that the sauce does not become too salty. Remove the bay leaves from the sauce after 2-3 hours. Let the sauce cool for a day and then fill it into bottles or glasses.
  3. In my experience, the sauce can be kept in the refrigerator for months.
