Beef stroganoff can be prepared in many different ways. In our case, this is beef stroganoff with milk at home. The dish tastes identical to the recipe for which cream is included.
Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add beef and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and any liquid has evaporated. Season with salt and pepper.
Add onions (cut into half rings) and grated carrots. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes until vegetables begin to soften.
Pour in enough broth or water to cover the meat. Cover with a lid and simmer over medium-low heat for 45-60 minutes until beef is tender.
In a small bowl, whisk together milk and a pinch of flour. When beef is tender, stir the milk mixture into the pan. Simmer uncovered for 5-10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Boil pasta or prepare mashed potatoes for a side dish. Vegetables can also be served alongside.
