I always thought that meatballs were fried or baked in the oven. And I tried the Polish recipe for meatballs boiled in vegetable broth with sour cream sauce, and I really liked it! Fragrant meat balls and a lot of delicious sauce!
Dice 1 onion. Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the diced onion for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
Add the fried onion to 500 g minced meat and mix well.
Add 2 tbsp flour, 1 egg, 2-3 tsp dill, salt to taste, and pepper to taste to the meat mixture. Mix until combined.
Form the mixture into meatballs. Moisten your hands with water as needed - this makes shaping easier.
Bring water to a boil in a pot with roughly chopped onion, carrot, herbs, and salt. Add the meatballs carefully and simmer for 5 minutes after the liquid returns to a boil.
While meatballs cook, prepare the sauce: melt a small amount of butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Add flour and stir constantly for 2-3 minutes until light golden brown with a nutty aroma, ensuring no lumps form.
Pour broth into the flour mixture. Add dill, salt, and pepper to taste. In a separate bowl, mix sour cream with water, then stir into the sauce.
Transfer the cooked meatballs to the sauce. Simmer together over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring gently to coat evenly.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes or your choice of side dish.
