Peel the potatoes and cut into small pieces, relatively thin slices or wedges. Peel the onion and cut into small pieces.
Let the oil or margarine heat up in the pan. Add the raw potatoes, season with salt and pepper. Scatter the indicated spices on top. Sear on all sides until the potatoes are a good color, only then add the onions.
Variation: Mix in ham or eggs as desired or add other herbs. Possibly eat with ketchup.
