Instructions

  1. First cut off a little from the underside of the melon so that the melon has a stable hold on a plate. Then the melon is halved, but a 3cm wide strip must be left in the middle of the melon as a basket handle on the melon. It is best to first cut a piece from the right to the middle and then from the left to the middle, so that at the end the handle remains over it (put the cut pieces aside). Now cut off the pulp from the handle so that only the skin of the melon remains as a handle.
  2. Next, the inside of the basket (the melon pulp) is hollowed out. A fruit spoon with which you can cut out balls is particularly good. If you don`t have such a spoon, you hollow out the melon and cut small cubes out of it.
  3. The apples are peeled and cut into approx. 1 cm wide slices. Now cut flowers out of the slices with a cookie cutter. To make the flowers look even prettier, you can hollow out a small hole in the middle and fill this circle with some melon pulp. That looks more real then. Now brush the apple flowers with lemon juice so that they do not turn brown. The remains of the apple can be cut into small pieces, coated with lemon juice and set aside. These are later put in the basket with the other fruit.
  4. Now cut out flowers from the melon pieces that were cut off at the side of the handle.
  5. Peel and slice the kiwi fruit and cut out flowers from it.
  6. Wash all other fruit and cut into bite-sized pieces if necessary. If you use fruit such as bananas etc., brush them with lemon juice to avoid brown spots.
  7. Now the melon basket is filled with all the available fruit. The cut flowers are placed decoratively on top of the basket and attached to the handle of the basket with toothpicks, for example.
