Preheat the oven to 200 degrees (convection 180 degrees). Line a deep baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix the butter with the eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar and gingerbread spice for 1 minute. Stir in the cocoa, salt, flour and baking powder. Spread the dough on the baking sheet. Drain the cherries and spread them on the cake. Bake the cake in the oven for about 15 minutes. Take out of the oven, let cool down a bit and dust with the icing sugar.
