Instructions

  1. For the applesauce, peel the apples, remove the core and cut the fruit into small pieces. Put five tablespoons of water in a small saucepan, the bottom should just be covered, and add the apple pieces. Cover and bring the mixture to the boil and cook for about two to four minutes (depending on the type of apples, the pieces must still be recognizable) and remove from the heat.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180-190 degrees top and bottom heat.
  3. For the dough, put all the ingredients (the butter must be cold, otherwise the dough will not be crumbly enough) in a mixing bowl and knead loosely with the mixer (dough hook) to form a crumbly dough. It only takes a minute or two.
  4. Butter a springform pan (26 cm diameter) and press in four fifths of the batter. Pull up a small edge of about two centimeters. Pour in the applesauce and smooth the surface. Sprinkle the vanilla sugar on top. Spread the remaining crumbs on top.
  5. Bake the cake for 20 to 30 minutes, leave to cool in the tin.
  6. Whipped cream tastes good with it.
  7. Tip:
  8. You can also fill the dough with other fruit, for example. with cherries. Put a glass of cherries with juice in a saucepan, thicken with a pack of vanilla pudding. Pour the mixture onto the dough as you would with applesauce and distribute the remaining crumbs on top.
