Instructions

  1. Work the minced meat with the garlic, oyster sauce, sugar and pepper into a smooth mass (I used a fork, but my hands do the same). Season to taste (if necessary, fry a little minced mixture in a pan so that it does not have to be seasoned raw), if necessary, add a little more seasoning. The mixture should taste a bit salty and sweet.
  2. Wash the basil leaves, drain them and pat dry carefully. Place one sheet at a time on a work surface with the bottom side up. Depending on the size of the leaf, put a little mince mixture in the middle of the leaf and roll it up into a firm roll, starting with the end of the stem. Then put the roll aside with the leaf tip down and do the same with the remaining leaves and the mince.
  3. Place several rolls on each toothpick, always piercing the tip of the leaf first so that the leaves do not roll up again. The skewers were different sizes for me, depending on the size of the rolls between two and 5 rolls fit on a toothpick.
  4. Grill the skewers on the grill for about 2 - 4 minutes, turning them. When the basil leaves are lightly brown and very hot, serve the skewers. Sprinkle with chopped peanuts to taste.
  5. The whole thing is not complicated, but a lot of work, but the result looks great, impresses the guests and tastes great with it.
  6. In any case, we have included it in our favorites list. I think that with the spicy mince - then knead in a little basil - you can make excellent meatballs or the like. But working with the skewers is really worth it visually.
