Instructions

  1. First of all: A square waffle iron is required for the preparation.
  2. First, coarsely grate the cheese. Mix with flour, baking powder and salt. Add the buttermilk and eggs and mix with a hand mixer to form a smooth dough. Let stand for about 20 minutes.
  3. In the meantime, peel and finely chop the onion, cut the gherkins into small slices. Cut the sausages into strips lengthways twice, making 3 long slices from one sausage.
  4. After the resting time, stir the onion and half of the gherkins and the fried onions into the batter. Also add 1 teaspoon of mustard.
  5. Heat the waffle iron and grease it well. Place the sausage slices lengthways in the grooves. Depending on the size of the waffle iron, shorten it if necessary. Now add the dough, calculate about 1 - 2 tablespoons of dough per waffle. Bake all the waffles one after the other in this way.
  6. Sprinkle the finished waffles with the remaining gherkins and fried onions. Make a sauce from ketchup, mustard and mayo to taste and distribute it.
  7. A simple salad is perfect as a side dish.
