Instructions

  1. Put the gin together with the lemon juice and elderberry syrup in a cup or glass (suitable for hot drinks), fill up with hot water and stir. Lard the lemon wedge with the cloves and add to the remaining ingredients together with the cinnamon stick. Let it steep for a moment and serve hot!
  2. This recipe is a variation on the classic Scottish hot toddy made with whiskey and sugar or honey. It is also used by many as a home remedy for colds, which is traditionally drunk before bed.
  3. Thanks to the elderberry syrup in the variation presented here, one could also assume that it has an expectorant effect. However, since the alcohol it contains is also removes water, if you have a cold it is at least advisable to enjoy the Hot Toddy with a glass of mineral water and not drink more than one cup.
