Wash the rice thoroughly, set aside in a colander to drain. Heat the ghee in a saucepan. Add the cardamom pods, clove, bay leaves and the cinnamon stick and stir-fry for about 1 minute. Add the rice and fry for another 2 minutes. Add salt, saffron and water to the rice and reduce the heat. Cover the pot and simmer over low heat until the water is soaked up. Occasionally loosen the rice with a fork.
