Peel the stewed cucumbers, scrape out the seeds and then cut the cucumbers into bite-sized pieces. At this point you should try each cucumber once, I had bitterness every now and then, that messed up the whole dish.
Heat the oil in a medium-sized casserole and first fry the diced ham lightly, then fry the cucumber pieces in it over medium heat, add a little salt and a lid.
In the meantime, peel the beefsteak tomatoes. Cut the tomatoes into small cubes and add to the stewed cucumber. They should smell good by now.
Let everything stew lightly for about 15-20 minutes and then season with salt and pepper at the end. The cucumber flavor should be retained. You don`t need any broth or other powders.
I think mashed potatoes are the best with this, boiled potatoes are also great, or rice, bread, whatever you want.
