Heat the broth, drain and add the lentils, simmer for 10 minutes, then add the roughly chopped vegetables including the chilli peppers and simmer for approx. 20 minutes with pre-soaked lentils (45 minutes with not soaked according to the package). Add the ham cubes in the last 5 minutes.
When the cooking time is over, add the pureed tomatoes (this has the advantage that you can eat immediately). You can round off the stew with parsley / chives, but you don`t have to.
