Clean the carrots and potatoes and cut into pieces approx. 1 cm in size. Peel and roughly cut the onions. Cut the smoked pork into 1 cm pieces (if necessary remove from the bone beforehand).
Sweat the onions with the juniper berries in the butter until translucent. Add the smoked pork chops and cook with them. Then add the carrots and potatoes and raise the temperature. When everything is fried, add the lentils, stir and deglaze with the water.
Simmer for 45 minutes - 1 hour until the lentils are cooked through. Stirring occasionally. Add sugar, vinegar and the chopped herbs. Stir, add salt and pepper to taste (usually not necessary) and serve.
