Instructions

  1. Mix the soft butter with the sugar and vanilla sugar until frothy.
  2. Finely chop the marzipan and whisk with the butter sugar mixture.
  3. Gradually stir in the eggs until everything has a creamy consistency.
  4. Mix the flour with the baking powder and then add small amounts alternately with the milk and mix thoroughly to form a viscous dough. Fold in the almonds. If you like, add bitter almond aroma (I love this taste) and cinnamon.
  5. Let the dough rest for about half an hour and then bake in portions in a waffle iron.

  7. They taste best hot from the waffle iron dusted with powdered sugar or with cream and hot cherries.
  8. We like to eat it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  9. You can use nuts instead of almonds.
  10. This recipe makes about 20 rectangular waffles. Either you have an extended family or you keep the rest of the waffles in a tin can for the next few days.
