Peel the potatoes and cut them into smaller cubes, then they`ll cook faster. Add 0.5 teaspoon salt and cook covered with water.
Peel the cucumber and grate it on the grated cucumber, sprinkle 0.5 teaspoons of salt over it, mix
and put aside. Let it steep for about 10 minutes.
In the meantime, put the vinegar, water, sugar and pepper in a bowl and stir with a spoon until the sugar has dissolved. Now add the cucumber with the drawn water and mix well. The salad should be sweet and sour with a peppery note. Possibly add seasoning.
Leave the ham cubes with the oil in a small pan.
When the potatoes are done, they are drained and the cooking water collected.
Now mash the potatoes and add about 50 ml of cooking water. The mash should not be too fluid, but smooth. Finally stir in the ham cubes.
Place the mashed potatoes in the middle of a plate and make a hollow in the mash with a fork
and put the cucumber salad in there.
Of course, every cucumber salad can be eaten as a mash, and whoever is mashed it
and don`t like salad on a plate, eat it from a separate bowl.
