Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes unpeeled, then let them cool down a bit and peel them while they are still warm, then let them cool down.
  2. In the meantime, peel and core the apples and cut into small cubes like the pickles. Peel and finely chop the onions as well. Also cut the herring into small pieces. After the potatoes have cooled down, cut them into fine slices.
  3. Place the potato slices in layers in a bowl and place each layer on top with salt, pepper and, proportionally, the cucumbers, apples, onions and herring. Repeat this until the ingredients are used up. Then add the meat salad and mix well. Then mix everything well, season to taste and, if necessary, add seasoning. Finally add the cucumber liquid, mix well and use it to create the consistency at your discretion.
  4. The eggs can be hard-boiled and cut in half or quartered as a garnish. Then cover the whole thing and let it steep for about two hours in a cool place.
