Instructions

  1. Put the red wine in a saucepan, squeeze the lemon and rub the peel and add to the saucepan with the sugar, cinnamon sticks and cloves. Heat the whole thing until just before the boiling point and then cover it and let it steep for about 1 hour.
  2. Important tip: The mulled wine may only be heated and not boiled! Otherwise, the alcohol contained in the mulled wine will evaporate and the spices will change their taste and become bitter.
  3. Finally, the mulled wine is refined with cardamom, the larger spices such as cinnamon sticks and cloves are removed. So that the mulled wine loses as little of its warmth as possible, it is advisable to pour it into preheated glasses.
  4. Finally, you can decorate with a cinnamon stick in mulled wine or a thin lemon wedge on the edge of the glass. Mulled wine can be sweetened with sugar or honey, depending on your taste.
