Halve the onions and cut across into slices. Do not slice the cabbage too finely.
In a large pan or saucepan, heat a good dash of oil over medium heat (7 of 9) and sauté the onions. With the amount you can put a lid on after about 5 minutes.
Always mix the onions and, when they are translucent, sprinkle the spices over them and stir well.
Divide the red cabbage into 2 portions and place the first layer on top of the onions, season with plenty of salt and put on the second layer. Then put the lid on and reduce the heat further (6 of 9). Mix everything well after approx. 5 minutes and cook for approx. 30 minutes. The cooking time depends on how firm you want the vegetables to be.
For me this is a complete meal, as a side dish it was good for 4 people. GATers can add potatoes.
