Put the flour in a bowl. Add the maple syrup, salt, egg and the milk and mix with the hand mixer to form a smooth dough. Then cover and let soak for half an hour at room temperature.
Melt butter or margarine in a non-stick pan.
Gradually add some batter to the pan with a ladle and bake about 12 small, thick pancakes on both sides until golden brown over medium heat.
Drizzle the pancakes generously with maple syrup before serving.
As a variation, you can top the pancakes with pieces of butter, use fried bacon as a side dish or mix blueberries into the batter (apple cubes or nuts are also possible).
