Dab the herring fillets with a kitchen towel. Cut into small pieces to taste (doesn`t have to be!) And place in a bowl. Peel and roughly grate the apple. Peel and dice the onions. Mix both with the sour cream. Refine with salt, sugar and lemon juice. Mix the herring pieces well with the sauce. Let something go.
This herring salad is eaten together with potatoes, clear beetroot soup, mushroom sauce, fried fish, sauerkraut salad and bread for Christmas in my Polish family.
