Instructions

  1. Place the first roll of puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  2. Mix applesauce with cinnamon and spread on the puff pastry. Now place the second roll of puff pastry on top and cut a Christmas tree out of it with a knife. It is best to start at the top with the tip and cut a triangle downwards. Now cut another tree trunk at the bottom. With a star-shaped cookie cutter, a star can be cut out of the leftover pieces and placed on top of the tree as a tree top. Put the remaining cut pieces of puff pastry aside and bake them later.
  3. In the meantime, preheat the oven to 180 ° C fan oven.
  4. Now, starting at the bottom approx. 2 cm above the tree trunk, strips are cut on both sides. Leave about 4 cm of space in the middle of the tree and then cut the strip outwards. The whole thing is done until just below the tree top on both sides of the tree. Now all strips are twisted twice. This creates a beautiful pattern.
  5. Whisk the egg and brush the tree with it.
  6. Bake the puff pastry Christmas tree for about 20 minutes, depending on the oven. Cut the remaining pieces into bite-sized pieces and bake them, so you don`t have to throw anything away. Take the tree out of the oven and let it cool.
  7. When the tree has cooled down, place it on a serving plate and sprinkle it with the powdered sugar. Finally, distribute the berries decoratively on the tree.
  8. Tip: If you prefer it chocolatey, simply use chocolate cream instead of applesauce.
