Core the apple unpeeled, cut into small pieces and place in a suitable small saucepan. Add red cabbage, 1 teaspoon sugar, 100 ml water and 1/2 tablespoon vinegar. Add cloves, if desired. Stir everything and let simmer for 20 minutes
At the same time, fry the bacon with oil and onions in a pan, it can turn a little brown. Mix the contents of the pan into the red cabbage approx. 15 minutes before serving. Remove the cloves and season the red cabbage with sugar and vinegar to taste.
