Instructions

  1. Mix the water with the sugar in a saucepan. Bring to the boil and simmer for about 5 minutes. In the meantime, wash the sage, pat dry and cut into small pieces. Take the saucepan off the stove and add the sage to the sugar water. Stir thoroughly, transfer to a container and refrigerate the syrup in it for approx. 2 - 3 days.
  2. After the steeping time, put through a sieve back into a saucepan so that the sage leaves are filtered out. Bring the syrup to the boil again and simmer for 15 minutes. Finally, add the squeezed lemon juice to the syrup and let it boil briefly.
  3. In the meantime, rinse the bottles with boiling water before filling them so that they are sterile. This way the syrup will last longer. Pour the syrup into the prepared bottles.
  4. Makes about 1.5 liters. The syrup will keep for several months.
  5. Sage helps with coughs and sore throats. A little syrup straight or infused with hot water can help.
  6. The syrup also tastes very good as a thirst quencher. With soda, ice cubes and a slice of lemon, it`s a great drink on hot days.
