Instructions

  1. Peel, boil and mash the potatoes. Fry the bacon and onion in the lard. Cut the savoy cabbage into strips, add half a cup of water and the salt to a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Let it boil for about 3 minutes, there is now very little water in the pot, that`s how it should be. Turn off the stove, add the baking soda and stir. Put the lid on and let it stand. Add pepper and nutmeg. Add the mashed potatoes and stir. Add some cream and the fried onion and bacon cubes with the fat and stir vigorously. Season again to taste. Bratwursts, meatballs, chops or peasant schnitzel (breaded, roasted belly meat) taste great with it.
