Instructions

  1. For the filling, fry the minced meat and then set it aside.
  2. Meanwhile, cut the onions and mushrooms, chop the carrots and garlic in the food processor. Fry the vegetables, then add the meat and garlic. Dust with paprika and add the tomato paste, fry briefly and deglaze with beef stock. To thicken the sauce, dissolve the cornstarch in a little water in a small container and add to the filling. Now season with the Worcestershire sauce and the spices. Boil down until there is hardly any liquid left. Remove the bay leaves.
  3. In the meantime, grease a pie / gratin dish (Ø approx. 18 - 20 cm). Cut out a lid (should be about 1 cm wider than the shape). Line the pie / gratin dish with the rest of the puff pastry, the pastry should reach just over the edge. Then put the filling in the resulting puff pastry bowl. Now place the pastry lid on the filling and press the edges together. Then use a fork to make grooves in the edge and carefully poke several holes in the dough lid in a decorative pattern so that the steam can escape while baking.
  4. Brush the meat pie with the egg yolk and place in the preheated oven at 200 ° C for around 25 minutes.
  5. Of course, you can also add other ingredients to the meat pie, such as leeks, zucchini, eggplant, corn, kidney beans or peppers. A cake batter could be used instead of the puff pastry.
  6. The filling for the meat cake can be prepared a day in advance. Since a ready-made dough is used for this recipe, the preparation is also very quick and easy.
  7. If you don`t have a large pie or gratin pan, you can instead make several small and handy mini pies in the muffin pan and serve them as finger food.
