For the sauce, peel and chop the onion and garlic. Braise in oil. Add the ketchup, tomato sauce and honey. Peel and chop the ginger and add with the remaining ingredients. Let simmer for 10 minutes.
For the spare ribs, peel the onion, cut into cubes and bring to the boil with the other ingredients in the water. Pre-cook spare ribs in it for 15-20 minutes. Take out and drain.
Brush the spare ribs with the BBQ glaze and grill until crispy while brushing several times.
