Instructions

  1. Cut the onion into small cubes and slowly sear them in a little oil over low to medium heat until they are almost soft. Add the appropriate amount of cayenne pepper and curry depending on the heat you want and sauté. Then add the finely diced garlic. If the spices create a light scent, add the peanut butter and let it melt gently for about 5 minutes.
  2. In the meantime, if desired, add harissa and about 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. Then add the coconut milk. Now just let it simmer gently. Try and add more of the spices if necessary.
  3. For me the sauce was pleasantly hot with about 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, ½ teaspoon curry and 3 teaspoons harissa. If you don`t know Harissa, you should start carefully, depending on the variety, this North African spice paste can be very hot. Harissa is available in well-stocked supermarkets or in Turkish shops.
