Instructions

  1. Whisk the egg and set aside about 1 to 2 tablespoons for brushing. Warm the milk lukewarm, crumble the yeast, mix with the sugar and a little milk until smooth. Mix the flour well with the remaining egg, salt and milk. Then add the butter in flakes and knead for another 3 minutes. Finally, carefully knead the trail mix (or, depending on your taste, the raisins / almonds / etc.) Into the dough. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 40 minutes (not necessary if you are in a hurry).
  2. Grease a loaf pan or other suitable form thoroughly with butter. Knead the dough briefly on a lightly floured work surface, shape it into an oval ball and place it in the mold with the smooth side up. Cut lengthways with a sharp knife and brush thinly with the leftover egg.
  3. Bake the mares in the hot oven at 180 degrees (convection 160 degrees) on the grill in the lower third for 30 minutes. Let cool in the mold for another 30 minutes and then turn over.
  4. It is best to eat lukewarm with butter or jam. Can also be eaten cold.
