Instructions

  1. Chop the onion and sauté in a little olive oil until translucent. Add the chopped garlic and sauté briefly (must not turn brown!). Add the hot ketchup, apple cider vinegar, applesauce and sugar beet syrup and bring to the boil. Stir in the remaining ingredients and simmer for 30-60 minutes, depending on the desired consistency.
  2. If you don`t like bits of the sauce, you can of course simply puree it at the end.
  3. Goes perfectly with grilled meat, steaks, as a marinade for spare ribs or as a ketchup substitute for French fries, potato wedges, baked potatoes, etc.

  5. If you like it spicier, you can also add chopped jalapeños or chipotles. With the latter, use less smoked salt and instead use normal salt.
  6. To round it off, you can also add a few pieces of dark chocolate to the sauce. Then reduce the sugar content a little.
