Instructions

  1. Put red wine in a large saucepan (5l), squeeze 2 oranges and add the juice to the red wine.
  2. Wash the third orange in hot water, cut into slices. Peel and core the apple, cut into wedges, halve the vanilla pod, scrape out the pulp, and bump allspice grains once.
  3. Put the spices in a spacious tea strainer. Put the vanilla pulp, orange and apple wedges, vanilla sticks and cinnamon sticks directly into the red wine, also add the tea strainer and let it steep for at least 1 hour, then slowly heat the mulled wine, do not boil it under any circumstances. Let it steep again for at least 1/2 hour, stir in the sugar and add the rum.
  4. Remove the tea strainer, vanilla and cinnamon sticks as well as the orange slices and apple wedges and serve the mulled wine in preheated cups or punch glasses. Add sugar to your liking.
  5. If the rum is too strong for you, you can also add port wine (250ml) as an alternative.
