Halve the cucumber with the skin (or peel if you like) and remove the core. Cut into half slices.
Place the cucumbers in a coated pan or saucepan. Sprinkle sugar over it, let it get hot and stir it. Add the other ingredients (except for the pepper) and mix everything well.
Braise the whole thing for about 5 - 10 minutes. Then arrange on a plate and grind the pepper over it.
The cucumber becomes soft on the outside and stays crisp on the inside. Goes wonderfully with grilled fish.
