Instructions

  1. Warm the milk (lukewarm, not too hot, otherwise the yeast will crack) and mix with the sugar and the fresh yeast in a larger container (no stainless steel). Let rise in a warm place for about 10 minutes. (Dry yeast does not have to go first).
  2. Sift the flour and mix with the salt. Add the yeast milk and work together with the oil and water (add gradually) to form a smooth dough. Knead the dough until the surface is slightly shiny.
  3. Put the dough in a bowl (cover with a clean towel) in a warm place for another 30 minutes.
  4. Shape the dough into sticks, approx. 10 cm long, as thick as a finger. Spread on a baking sheet (or two) lined with baking paper, not too close, as the sticks will still rise a little. Let the tray rise with the bars one last time for about 20 minutes (in a warm place, of course). Preheat the oven to 240 degrees.
  5. Baking time: 15 minutes at 240 degrees, then switch the stove back to 150 degrees, bake for another 25-30 minutes
  6. Tastes delicious as an accompaniment to anything or as a complement to French white bread. If you like, you can also season the sticks with herbs, sun-dried tomatoes or olives (mix dry ingredients with the flour, just work moist ingredients into the dough at the end).
