Preheat the oven to 175 degrees C top / bottom heat.
Put the beef brisket in a roaster, sprinkle with the spices and sugar. Add enough water to just cover the brisket. Put the lid on and bake in the oven for 2 1/2 hours.
After that there are 2 variants.
Version 1:
Take the roast out of the roaster, let it cool and then cut it into slices and use it for a Reuben sandwich (among my recipes).
Variant 2:
Take the roast out of the roaster, let it rest a little and serve with steamed white cabbage and mashed potatoes.
