For the dough, pour the buttermilk, sugar, eggs, flour sifted with baking powder and possibly spices into a large bowl and stir well with the hand mixer. Pour the liquid dough into a deep baking sheet lined with paper, smooth it out and bake at 200 degrees for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat the butter and sugar in a saucepan, mix in the almonds and milk and possibly vanilla. Spread the topping on the pre-baked base and bake for another 10-15 minutes.
Goes in no time and is always a hit!
Variation: replace almonds with shaved hazelnuts or desiccated coconut - or a mixture of all three!
