- Roughly grate the peeled apples.
- Beat the egg whites and stir in half of the sugar.
- Mix the butter with the remaining sugar, the vanilla sugar and the yolks until frothy. Stir in apples and nuts.
- Mix the flour with the baking powder and cocoa and fold in alternately with the snow.
- Spread the dough on a greased, floured tray and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 35 minutes.
- Let cool, cut into 24 slices and sprinkle with icing sugar.
- Tip:
- Brush the hot cake with jam and sprinkle with ground walnuts.
