Cut the rolls into thin slices. Mix 1/4 l milk with vanilla sugar and dip the bread roll in it. Cut the apples into slices, fry them in butter and dust them with a little sugar until they caramelize. Put soaked rolls and apples alternately in a greased baking dish and sprinkle with almond sticks. Whisk the rest of the milk with the cream, eggs, sugar and lemon zest and pour over it.
