Instructions

  1. In a bowl, knead together the minced beef, bread slices, pressed garlic, and chicken broth until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small walnut-sized balls.
  3. Heat the 8 tablespoons oil in a large pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  4. Fry the meatballs for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through (internal temperature 71°C / 160°F).
  5. Transfer the cooked meatballs to a clean plate.
  6. Cut the onions into long strips.
  7. Add the onion strips to the same pan and cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly softened.
  8. Add the tomato paste and stir to combine.
  9. Add roughly 1 cup water and salt to taste.
  10. Simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  11. Return the meatballs to the pan and stir gently to coat with sauce.
  12. Serve with the yogurt on the side.
